Second visit to DOM for on-site training on calibration (2017)

From 12 to 16 June 2017, two technical experts from WMO/RIC Tsukuba paid the second visit to Sri Lanka's Department of Meteorology (DOM) to provide on-site training in meteorological instrument calibration and discuss the establishment of a traceability system as part of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Project for Improving of Meteorological Observation, Weather Forecasting and Dissemination in Sri Lanka. This followed the initial course of on-site training held at DOM in January 2017.

The trainees reviewed the calibration procedures covered in the previous training and learned how to inspect thermometers, hygrometers and barometers at observation sites. The attendees and visiting experts discussed the compilation of practical guidelines on calibration and inspection procedures, as well as methods of inspecting/establishing the traceability of DOM anemometers, hygrometers and precipitation gauges.

The on-site training provided in January and June 2017 is considered to have been successful and to have laid ground for further collaborative activities with WMO/RIC Tsukuba.
